“Practice values with the children and you will be sure of less wars and more peace after twenty years”Anonymous
There is so much emphasis on teaching something for a greater career, for a greater pay scale, for a greater success. But what if there is equal emphasis on teaching something for a being a great human? What if we teach them on how to be kind, on how to be honest and how to be loving and compassionate for everything they come across in their life? What if we make them aware of the power of forgiveness? What if we teach children to be just and fair, to be humble and grounded?
What if we give every child a chance to practice the values which help them be a human being?
Life becomes so beautiful when there is evolution happening in every stage of life. That is what exactly what we are trying to do, HELPING THE CHILDREN EVOLVE in a way which will make their life interesting and meaningful at the same time.
We do this by making children aware of different values which they can use in their lives. This happens not by force but by will. Not by giving them lecture or telling them that they have to do that but by giving them the opportunity to practice it. For example, if the value of the month is Kindness, the mentors and the children, perform a small act of kindness and share it with the class next day. We share, how we felt, what we did, what was the reaction we got from the people on whom we performed kindness. Every child in Touching Lives is given a chance to practice the value on themselves, on their family and friends, on their community, on the city and then on the nation and the world at large. We also encourage children to share their knowledge on values to others. There are reflection sessions, silence–time, story–telling sessions which we use to help children to sink the value in them. We also show them Videos of people who inspire us to be a man of values.
Some of the values which we practice with children are:
- Joy of Giving
While teaching them about these values, we realized, that we too are learning it all over again. We realized that Albert Einstein was right when he said, Try being a man of values than being the man of success.
